Take a peek at the magic and joy that unfold each day within our learner groups.
Pre-requisite skills / Formal and functional academics
Our groups include activities that help learners build the foundational skills needed for learning and school readiness. These pre-requisite skills form the base for future formal academics. – Functional academic skills are also woven into the curriculum to help learners succeed in everyday life at home, at school and in the community. These include practical reading, writing, numeracy, thinking and reasoning skills that support real-life independence.
Motor Skills Development
Gross motor activities form an essential part of our daily routine. These skills support healthy growth and include balance, posture, coordination, movement and ball skills. – Fine motor development focuses on the small muscles of the hands and fingers, helping learners with tasks such as writing, drawing, buttoning, grasping and manipulating objects. All activities are carefully adapted to each learner’s physical abilities to ensure meaningful progress and success.
Communication & Life Skills
Alternative and augmentative communication is woven into every part of the day at Apricot Tree. We use a variety of tools and approaches, including Makaton signing, Boardmaker PCS symbols and the GRID. Learners also benefit from iPads, Big Mack communication devices and PODD books, giving each child a way to express themselves in a meaningful and accessible way.
