Individualised Educational and development programmes (IEDP’s)

Every learner at the centre has an Individual Educational and Development Programme where specific goals are set out by their support team for the year. This year’s IEDP’s will run from the 2nd of March 2020. Each session will be scheduled from 07:00-07:45 with teachers, therapists and facilitators in attendance. An email will be sent out with a detailed schedule shortly.

Valentine’s Day Celebrations
On Friday the 14th of February we will have an outing for the learners; details to follow soonest. Save the date – 15 February 2020 is our first fundraising event (It is NOT to be missed especially if your husband is not good at planning Valentine’s Day. Spoil your spouse with this one). This will be an evening event.

Inga from Eagle’s Tumbling is still interested in joining our team and offering movement therapy once a week. Tumbling will be treated like all other therapies; where you will sign a contract with and make payments directly to Eagle’s Tumbling. Please advise your class teacher if you would like your child to join Tumbling.

Music Therapy

Jessica was an amazing addition to our team last year and her music therapy sessions were so beneficial. With a heavy heart, she took up another offer for this year where she was hired as the centre’s therapist on a short-term fixed contract. This has allowed her to be able to expand on her knowledge and experience in a different field for the benefit of her studies. Jessica ensured us that as soon as this contract has ended she would love to join us in the middle of the year. We wish her all the best and can’t wait to work with her again.

Based on the votes collected last year we have come to the conclusion that running aftercare would not be feasible. We will continue exploring all options where we could possibly assist parents by raising funds for a Centre vehicle or potential afternoon programmes.

Snack Trolley

Thank you for the interest shown in supporting our young adults “Snack Trolley” venture. The following goods will be made available on the trolley on a weekly basis: Chips – Popcorn – Chocolate minis – Juice boxes – Flavoured milk – Fruit (Seasonal)

A special something will be made available once a month. The Snack Trolley will be run every second week as a start. An “order form” will be sent in the communication books at the beginning of that week for you to indicate what your child would like to purchase. On “Snack Day”, the teacher will then be able to assist learners in ordering from the young adults. For non-verbal learners, the teacher will record the learner’s order on a device so that they can participate in the “ordering/choosing” process. This is very much a “trial run” and we will be learning as we go. Your input and feedback is much appreciated.

Arrivals and departures

Thank you for sticking to the morning arrival times from 07:00 – 08:00. We thank you for your patience with the opening and closing of access gates to the property and we ask that these only be operated by the Teacher on duty. Departure and collection is at 12:30. There will be a waiting class for children who cannot be collected at 12:30. The waiting class will only be until 13:00. The learners will be supervised during this time. Please inform your class teacher if your child will be staying for waiting class. Please ensure that you sign the class register when dropping off and collecting your child.

The learner’s safety is of utmost importance to us therefore we would like parents to please inform Abby, Annette and/or the class teacher if there are any changes with regards to who will be picking up or dropping off your child from school.

Sick children

Please remember that it is important to keep sick children at home as they often carry contagious infections that spread quickly throughout the school and affect many of our learners with weak immune systems.

School Communication

We will continue to have the Apricot Tree Parents and Teachers Whatsapp Group. Should you need to contact your class teacher during the school hours please contact Annette on 082-332-9348 or alternatively on the school landline 011-849-0330 as the class teachers do not have their phones on them during the day.

School accounts

A friendly reminder that school fees should be paid before the 7th of each month over a 12 month period. Should you have any queries regarding your account please contact Annette van Niekerk at [email protected] / 082-332-9348.

Please don’t forget to swipe your MySchool card when purchasing items at Woolworths. If you do not have one yet please get one at your nearest Woolworths or alternatively contact Annette as she has cards available. Register your card online at www.myschool.co.za and select The Apricot Tree Trust as your preferred beneficiary. Thank you to all who are using their card.
